原標題:新概念你真嘅學透la嗎?

喺做乜嘢,一直喺做,為乜嘢做

一般說來,新概念三冊嘅第二課對於老師同學生都係相對輕鬆嘅一篇課文—單詞隻有四個(有一個還係大部分中國學生唔太可能會用到嘅vicar),語法重點係二冊當中出現多次嘅“分詞作狀語”。嗰麼這篇課文還有冇值得發掘嘅知識點呢?教la十幾遍,我喺去年秋季得到la一些小小嘅啟發,喺課文中找到la一個同寫作同口語都可以結合嘅知識點。

熟悉課文嘅人都明白,喺課文嘅最後,牧師同雜貨店主發生la一段對話。倆人係咁樣開始嘅:

–“Whatever are you doing up here, Bill?

–“I’m trying to repair the bell. I’ve been coming up here night after night for weeks now.

You see, I was hoping to give you a surprise.”

牧師嘅問題係:你到底喺這兒幹嘛呢?而雜貨店主喺回答嘅時候並非隻係簡單地交代一句修鍾。喺說完修鍾之後,他又補充la兩個信息:一個係他一直喺做,一個係他咁樣做嘅原因。

針對這一小段,我喺課堂上設置la一個同雅思寫作考試相關嘅仿寫練習:

Space travel has been possible for some time and some people think space tourism could help the country develop in the future. To what extent do you think space tourism is a positive or negative development? (20130706 IELTS 學術類)

題幹說嘅係太空旅遊,要求學生寫一篇文章,論述太空旅遊到底係積極嘅發展,還係消極嘅發展。按照我們嘅寫作習慣同國情,這種類型嘅文章,我們一般會喺第一段描述現喺嘅社會現象,進而引出熱議嘅話題,再給出自己嘅觀點進行論述。嗰麼喺寫第一段嘅時候,我們係唔係可以諗到咁樣嘅開篇方式:

中國喺研發(develop)載人航天器(manned spacecraft)。這些年來中國一直喺把宇航員送往外太空(outer space)。科學家們希望有朝一日(one day in the future)中國人民可以實現太空旅遊嘅願望。

這段中文,思路上跟課文中“喺做乜嘢,一直喺做,為乜嘢做”如出一轍,我們自然可以仿造課文結構寫出咁樣嘅段落:

China is developing manned spacecraft. The country has been sending spaceman to outer space all these years. The scientists were hoping that one day in the future Chinese people would realize the dream of space travel.

除此之外,這一小段喺口語表達上也對我們有所啟發。眾所周知,雅思嘅口語考試,喺第一環節中,考官都會la解一下考生嘅個人信息。有些時候難免會問到考生係從事乜嘢職業嘅。如果喺這個時候,考生隻回答自己“做乜嘢”,嗰麼信息就會顯得幹癟、唔豐滿。所以補充上“一直做,為乜嘢做”就顯得好有必要,也有利於這一段對話嘅繼續進行。即使唔係問職業,另舉一例,考官問到la考生嘅興趣愛好,嗰就更有必要把信息說得豐滿一點。因為,如果我們隻回答鐘意乜嘢,完全冇乜嘢說服力。說清楚自己鐘意la多久同為乜嘢鐘意,考官才願意相信這真正係愛好。試比較:

–What’s your hobby?

–I like football very much.

以及

–What’s your hobby?

–I like football very much. I have been a fan since the 1996 Euro Cup when my favorite team Germany won the championship. I was hoping that one day in the future I could become a commentator for football matches.

第二段表達嘅說服力顯然更強。

僅僅係三句話,卻喺寫作上同口語上都對我們嘅英語學習有所啟發,唔得唔說新概念教材嘅亮點無處唔喺。所以,期待更多嘅同學來新東方嘅課堂上同我們一起發掘。
